ILEAV Overview
The purpose of SMF's ILEAV program is to greatly expand the use of clean fuel vehicles and the infrastructure needed to support the operation of those vehicles. Such equipment includes vehicles used in the publicly accessible portion of the Airport such as busses and other vehicles as well as ground service equipment (GSE) used in the airside portion of the airport to service aircraft and transport baggage. The SMF ILEAV project will assist continued and expanded utilization of these technologies by the Airport, and encourage Airport tenants to deploy similar equipment in a cost effective manner. This program also includes monitoring and evaluation of the SMF program to encourage replication of the program at other airports throughout the country
The goal of the Sacramento County Airport System ILEAV project at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is to make the airport a model of the program by deploying a variety of cost effective, innovative airfield and landside clean fuel vehicles to improve air quality. For over a decade, the airport has been implementing various low emission vehicle and equipment programs in a continuous effort to reduce smog-producing emissions.
ILEAV program elements that are already in use at SMF include installation of electrified jet bridges at all aircraft gates. The electrified jet bridges provide power and air conditioning to planes while parked, improving air quality by eliminating the need for aircraft to generate power by running auxiliary power units (APUs).
