Welcome to the Sacramento County Airport System Noise Resource Center. This resource center has been developed to inform individuals and the communities around Executive Airport of the County's ongoing efforts towards reducing aircraft noise. Sacramento County operates Executive Airport and is committed to being a good neighbor to the surrounding communities.
The Sacramento County Airport System's Airport Noise and Operations Monitoring System (ANOMS) is a comprehensive system to provide aircraft flight path information for flights affecting Sacramento neighborhoods and suburban communities around Executive Airport. This integrated system includes a direct connection to the FAA's air traffic control radar that collects aircraft flight tracks.
Feedback from our neighbors is crucial to the success of this program. The information from citizens about airport noise in neighboring communities is also entered into the system. This information is analyzed at a central computer that helps the airport in the management of the airport noise mitigation programs. The Sacramento County Airport System Noise Office will use this data as the basis for working with local officials, the Federal Aviation Administration, air carriers and communities on future programs aimed at reducing noise impacts on residential communities.
Are you curious about aircraft noise is, how it is monitored, or what the Sacramento County Airport System has planned for noise abatement in the future? Whether your group wants a 10 minute introduction or one hour presentation, our Speakers Bureau can assist you with arranging a presentation that is custom tailored for you.

General Noise Information
According to Webster's New World Dictionary, noise is any loud, discordant or disagreeable sound or sounds. Ambient noise is constantly and spontaneously occurring "background noise." Car engines roaring, dogs barking, wind blowing and birds chirping are some of the sounds that combine to make up the ambiance.
Levels of sound are expressed in decibels (dB), a numerical expression of the relative loudness of a sound. Here are some examples of how loud certain common sounds are:
- A car engine at 50 feet away averages 70 dB.
- A power lawnmower at 50 feet away averages 90 dB.
- A diesel truck at 50 feet away averages 80 dB.
- A train at 50 feet away averages is 85 dB.
- A Walkman at 5/10 setting is 94 dB.
- The ARCO Arena during a Sacramento Kings basketball game can reach 108 dB.
- An older Boeing 747-200 series aircraft flying directly over a home two miles away from the airport measures 100 dB outdoors.
A newer Boeing 757 aircraft flying the same path measures 74 dB.
